Cleveland Chapter Project -- Can You Help Us?

Has your family maintained Christmas traditions or were they lost to "Americanization" or "it's too much work" syndrome. Many of these traditions will be lost forever as our population ages and those who know the traditions grow old and forget or pass on. Therefore, the Cleveland Chapter of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society has deemed 2015-2016 the year to get back to our roots with our "Keep a Tradition - Create a Tradition" programs.

We are asking those who have maintained or remember traditions from their past to share them with us. Although similar, there are little nuances based on the location of origin and the intermingling of families from different areas. We would like to create a cookbook (or similar compilation) with these traditions including recipes to go along, hopefully leaving a legacy of information for those to come. As you prepare your food for Christmas, please take pictures so they can be included. If possible, put your information in a story format and try to include your name - village(s) of origin - how your Christmas Eve progressed - special prayers or blessings during the meal - were there carolers coming to the door? - did you have a Christmas tree, wheat or other decorations around the house? - plus anything that is a particular fond or not so fond memory of the day. When possible go back to the immigrant ancestor. Help us keep our rich traditions alive!!!
